Weeks ago, we planned to return before the 62nd day, because we wanted to attend the wedding anniversary reception of some longtime friends on June 12. However, finding out that Patrise had contracted COVID, and I was exposed of course, we came home early. As it turns out we will not be able to attend the reception at all. Other than a few traffic slowdowns, mostly due to construction, the trip from Charlotte to Atlanta was fairly unremarkable. The one peculiar anecdote was a stop at Burger King for lunch. We were going to get Impossible Whoppers -- the plant-based sandwiches, but we could not go through the drive through with our RV, so we parked it. We went to the store to go in and order, but due to a lack of workers, they were not open for in-store service, only in the drive through. So we did what any creative consumer would do, we walked through the drive through line, maintaining our place, until our turn. We ordered, paid for and got our food, then returned to our RV and continued to drive home.
Here are some pictures from the drive home:

(Coming into Georgia)

(MARTA Armour Yard rail maintenance station. I worked with the engineering team that designed this facility years ago. I get a sense of pride each time I see it.)
Finally we reached the skyline of Atlanta. Home, sweet home.

Over the course of the next day or two, I will post some of our reflections of the trip experience: thoughts such as favorite eating experiences, worst roads, favorite towns or communities visited, etc. For now though, the journey has reached an end. Thank you to those of you who have followed our journey and experiences. We hope that the vignettes, photos, and reflections have given you a sense of some of the wonderful places we've visited, people we've met and things we've seen. For us, it was a reminder that in so many ways, it is still a wonderful world out there, We hope you will do your own exploring soon.
