We said goodbye to the North Highland cows and the Reeds this morning, after a great breakfast. Then, we got underway, making for the environs around Portland, Maine.

Today was a monumental day for three reasons. (1) We logged our 3,000th mile. (2) We made it to Maine, the 49th state we have now visited. (3) Today marks the half-way point in our planned 62-day trip. Through the rest of this week and into next week, we will make our way through Maine, into Canada, and back through Maine.
We made it to Maine and now can say that we have been in 49 of the 50 United States. We have accomplished our objective to visit both West Virginia and Maine. We had not been in either of these states, nor spent the night in either. We arrived in Portland this afternoon after driving through some beautiful small mountainous areas in eastern New Hampshire and the southwest. The weather for our drive was clear and sunny until later when it turned cloudy. It is raining lightly this evening although severe thunderstorms ran through Corinth a few hours after we left, and those storms are now impacting several communities around Portland. Here are many photos of the journey.

(You see a lot of granite/ore/mining/rock themes in New Hampshire. Remember its nickname is "the granite state", which is very easy to see why as you go through the countryside.)

(There seems to be an Edward Jones on every "main street" in every village, town, or city we have travel through. Our financial adviser is an Edward Jones agent, so I've been sending him pictures of several of these offices, when I've managed to capture a photo of them.)

(A distinctive trait in New Hampshire and Maine was the presence of all of these boulder or rock walls. These were particularly prevalent in our travels today.)

When we got to Portland, we stopped at a local seafood provider for a late lunch. Patrise had her first lobster but she did not want to fight to get the meat out. I ended up having to help her out. I had a lobster roll. Needless to say, the lobster was really fresh.

Tonight we are staying at the Wild Duck Adult RV Campground. We plan to wake up early and tour Portland on the way to breakfast. After breakfast, we will be heading to Houlton, Maine. Today marked one month of our RV Trip. It is hard to believe that it has been that long. We have seen a lot of things and have had some wonderful experiences. Still, we have so many more places to go and sights to see; we hope that we have enough time.
Good night!
The grass is so green, and the sky is so blue! The roads look well cared for. There is sparse traffic The whole scene lends itself to calm travel.. You will have fond memories of this trip.
