February 15 -- Part Three, A Night on the Town

Patrise was not feeling well most of the the afternoon -- upset stomach problems. She stayed in bed and napped most of the afternoon, while I worked on the blog, looked at emails, and spent time researching things to do in Singapore. I was hoping that when she awakened, she would feel up to getting out and about. She did, and then we did!

I decided that we would go to the Night Safari experience at the zoo. (I say "I decided", because she was leaving all of the thinking to me, this evening.) However, before departing for the Night Safari, we went to a local mall near the hotel. By the way, Singapore -- this area, at least -- has a mall around every corner, it seems. So we made our way to the nearby mall, where we were able to exchange $150 US for $195 SD. We went shopping, purchasing a new fanny pack and some eyeglass cleaning supplies for Patrise. Then, we returned to the hotel and got a cab to the Night Safari; it was a good thirty-minute taxi ride to the location.

Probably because of the Lunar New Year, the Night Safari was crowded with people. Maybe it's like this all the time, but a lot of people and families are on vacation because of the new year celebration which tends to run a whole week. We purchased our tickets, and we immediately went to the tram line. There were several trails through the complex, but we decided to do the tram ride, have a meal, then catch a taxi back to the hotel. Upon returning, we went to the hotel bar to get Singapore slings, then went to our room to retire for the night.

Here are some pictures of animals I took from the tram. I was not allowed to use flash -- understandable, because the zoo officials don't want their nocturnal animals disturbed by a lot of artificial lights -- and so the pictures were mostly blurred. The ones below were the best of the batch.

(Top Row: us, Asian river otter, bongo; Second Row: Sumatran rhino, Sumatran rhino, lion;

Third Row: tapir, tapir, Asian elephant; Fourth Row: Asian elephants.)
